Green Flag Ready To Fly At Canada's Biggest SportsCar Event Of The Year

Canada’s biggest sportscar race weekend of the year, the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix featuring the exotic prototype and high-tech GT race cars of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, is set for Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, July 5-8. Retired Major-General David Fraser, one of Canada’s most decorated officers, is the Grand Marshal for the weekend.

Featuring many of the world’s top sports car drivers from over 20 countries, the star-studded entry list includes Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya and defending WeatherTech series co-champs, Jordan and Ricky Taylor, as well as drivers and teams who recently competed at the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. They will pilot race cars from prestigious marques including Acura, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Corvette, Ford, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Lexus, and Porsche. The event also includes exciting action from the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, and the IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda.

Major-General Fraser served for over 31 years with the Canadian Forces highlighted by numerous operational tours around the world. He has been recognized for his leadership by the United States twice (Legion of Merit and Bronze Star), NATO, the Netherlands, Poland, the Atlantic Council and CDA as the Vimy recipient. He is the recipient of the Commander of Military Merit, the Meritorious Service Cross, and Meritorious Service Medal from Canada.

“We are honoured to have Major-General Fraser as our Grand Marshal for the weekend,” said Myles Brandt, President and General Manager, CTMP. “Given we’ve just celebrated Canada Day and our neighbours to the south are celebrating Independence Day, we salute the men and women that have served in both the Canadian and US forces. It’s great to see a number of the US teams racing with us this weekend sporting car liveries themed to express patriotism and military appreciation.”

Many fan-friendly activities are scheduled including the popular Open Grid Walk prior to both the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race on Sunday and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race on Saturday where spectators can gather in pit lane, along with all the cars, drivers and crews.

Single-day tickets are $40 on Saturday and $50 on Sunday, with a Weekend Super Ticket costing $70 (until July 4). Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult. For more information or to purchase tickets pleaase click the 'Buy Tickets' icon at the top or bottom of this page!
