Canada's Biggest Sports Car Event Of The Year Underway At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

Canada’s biggest sportscar race weekend of the year, the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix featuring the exotic prototype and high-tech GT race cars of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, is underway at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The event runs through Sunday, July 8.

Many of the world’s top sports car drivers from over 20 countries including Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya and defending WeatherTech series co-champs, Jordan and Ricky Taylor, will be taking to the track. The event also includes exciting action from the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, and the IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda. 

In Friday action, American Colin Braun piloting the No. 54 CORE autosport ORECA LMP2 (Prototype class) posted the quickest time of the day (1:06.902) in the second WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice session. Top Canadian of the day was Toronto’s Kyle Marcelli (No. 14 3GT Racing Lexus RC F GT3), second on the time charts in the GT Daytona class (1:16.669).

Saturday's on-track schedule begins at 8:30 a.m. The feature race of the day – the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120 for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge – starts at 3:05 p.m.

Weekend Super Tickets ($80), General Camping ($60) and RV Camping ($80) are available for purchase at the gate. Single-day tickets are $40 on Saturday and $50 on Sunday.  Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
