Braun & Bennett Win Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix At CTMP

The American team of Colin Braun and co-driver Jonathan Bennett won Sunday’s Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, part of Canada’s biggest sportscar race weekend of the year.

Braun and Bennett finished on top of the podium after they drove their No. 54 CORE autosport ORECA LMP2 from the back of the Prototype class. Braun had qualified the car on pole, but in a strategic move by his team Bennett started the race – IMSA rules placed the car at the back of the 12-car Prototype class.

British driver Richard Westbrook and Australian Ryan Briscoe teamed up in the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT to win the GT Le Mans class, and the GT Daytona class was won by Dutch driver Jeroen Bleekemolen and co-driver American Ben Keating in the No. 33 Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3. Top Canadian of the day was Barrie’s Kyle Marcelli who drove the No. 14 3GT Racing Lexus RC F GT3 to a second-place finish in GTD along with co-driver Austrian Dominik Baumann.

Next up on the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park schedule is the Superbike Doubleheader August 10–12. Canada’s top motorcycle riders compete in a doubleheader points race for the national Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship.
