Ben Young Scores First Mopar Canadian Superbike Win At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
Clarksburg, Ontario’s Ben Young scored his first career national Mopar Canadian Superbike win Saturday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, part of the Superbike Doubleheader weekend. Canada’s biggest motorcycle road race event continues through Sunday, August 12.
Young, riding the No. 86 BMW S1000RR, started from pole and dueled with Belfountain, Ontario’s Kenny Reidmann on the No. 42 Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja. Reidmann took the lead mid-race, but Young fought back a couple of laps later to take back the spot and held off the No. 42 rider to take the checkered. Defending Champion Jordan Szoke, from Lynden, Ontario, finished third aboard his No. 1 BMW S1000RR and looks to finish 14th or better in Sunday’s 2018 season finale race to secure the seven points needed to clinch his record 13th, and fourth straight, series title.
In other Saturday action, Peterborough’s Tomas Casas successfully defended his Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike Championship riding his No. 1 Yamaha YZF-R6 to victory in class. Casas secured the class championship in exciting fashion taking the lead on the penultimate lap and holding off challengers to take the checkered.
Sunday’s racing starts at 9 a.m. with the Mopar Canadian Superbike feature scheduled for a green flag start at 3 p.m. Off-track, Jordan Szoke’s Extreme Show is set to perform a high-adrenaline freestyle motocross show, while Honda, BMW and Harley-Davidson will be offering demo rides. Honda will also be running its Junior Red Riders program for 6- to 12-year-olds to learn how to ride in an environment that is designed to be safe, fun and community-focused. All these off-track features are included with event admission.
Sunday race day tickets ($35) are still available to purchase at the gate. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
