AUSTIN CINDRIC SCORES POLE FOR NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES CHEVROLET SILVERADO 250 AT CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK
Austin Cindric will start on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pole for Sunday’s Chevrolet Silverado 250 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Canada’s biggest NASCAR event of the year continues through Sunday.
Cindric, of Columbus, Ohio, in the No. 19 Draw-Tite Ford F-150, posted the fastest time with a new series qualifying lap record (1:18.602). Coming into the weekend, Cindric is looking to score maximum points as he sits 11th in the playoff standings – only the top 8 qualify for the playoffs starting September 23 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Top Canadian on the grid is Alex Tagliani, of Lachenaie, Que, who will start 12th in the No. 02 Spectra Premium Chevrolet Silverado.
The Canadian-based NASCAR Pinty’s Series also held its qualifying session on Saturday. The top three drivers from the session all eclipsed the previous series qualifying record (1:22.770) with Kevin Lacroix of Saint-Eustache, Que. in the No. 74 Bumper to Bumper/Total/Gates/Go Fast Dodge posting a 1:22.521 to secure the pole for Sunday’s Total Quartz 200. Starting alongside Lacroix will be Anthony Simone, of Aurora, Ont. in the No. 95 Innovative Plumbing/Ink Your Ride Dodge (1:22.635). Doing double duty this weekend, Tagliani will start third after posting a 1:22.640 in his No. 18 EpiPen/Lowes/St. Hubert/Fast Wheels Chevrolet.
Saturday’s action also saw Tsawwassen, British Columbia’s Scott Hargrove in the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports/Castrol entry win overall for the second day in a row in the IMSA Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama race – and in doing so he clinched the 2017 driver’s championship. Brampton, Ontario’s Bob Attrell in the No. 88 Hyundai Racing Canada Hyundai Genesis Coupe also doubled up on Saturday taking the overall GT Sport win in the Canadian Touring Car Championship.
The green flag for the Chevrolet Silverado 250 and the Camping World Truck Series feature is scheduled for 2:30pm on Sunday, while the Pinty’s Series Total Quartz 200 is scheduled for a 11:05 am start. Race Day tickets are still available for purchase at the gate.
