Andrew Ranger Wins Exciting Clarington 200

Quebec native Andrew Ranger won the exciting NASCAR Pinty’s season opening race, the Clarington 200 in front of a huge crowd at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday, May 22.

Ranger was at the right place at the right time and it paid off for him. Sitting in third place behind leader Jason Hathaway and Alex Labbe on the final lap, Labbe and Ranger took turns passing Hathaway, with Ranger taking the win – his third win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and the 21st of his career. Ranger was followed by Robin Buck in second and D.J. Kennington third.

The Pirelli World Challenge held their second GT/GTA/GT Cup Class race of Castrol presents the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend. For the second day in a row, Patrick Long was victorious in the Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R. The California driver was followed by J.D. Davison in a Nissan GTR GT3 and Andrew Palmer in a Bentley Continental GT3. Michael Schein took the checkered flag in GTA Class for the second straight day, and Chris Green took first for the GT Cup class.

The Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama held its second race of the weekend. In Platinum Cup, Zacharie Robichon finished on the top step of the podium with Michael de Quesada second and Marco Cirone third. In Gold Cup Bruno Chapinotti was first and Saturday’s winner Shaun McKaigue finished second.

Alex Labbe Wins The Pole For NASCAR Pinty’s Series Season Opener

NASCAR Pinty’s Series driver Alex Labbe of Victoriaville, Que., set the pace for the season opening race, with a time of 1:23.182 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Saturday, May 21.

Two-time Series champion Andrew Ranger of Roxton Pond, Que., will join Labbe on the front row and Pier-Luc Ouellette will start third.

The Pirelli World Challenge GT class ran the first of its two weekend races. Patrick Long finished first from pole position in a Porsche 911 GT3R. He was followed to the line by the Bentley Continental GT3 of Andrew Palmer with Ryan Eversley third in an Acura TLX-GT. Michael Shein finished first in the GTA class with Martin Fuentes second. Alec Udell took first in the GT Cup class with Sloan Urry coming in second.

The Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama held the first of its two weekend races as well. Starting from pole position, Alegra Motorsports driver Daniel Morad won in the Platinum Cup class over Scott Harrgrove. Shaun McKaigue took the victory in Gold Cup with pole sitter Bruno Chapinotti second.

Saturday’s racing also saw the Canadian Touring Car Championship run the first leg of its weekend doubleheader. Gary Kwok took the Grand Touring win – as well as first overall – over Bob Attrell. Scott Nicol was first – second overall – in Super Touring and Michel Sallenbach was victorious in the Touring Class.

Sunday’s schedule begins with qualifying and three races; the Pirelli World Challenge (Sprint-X GT and GTS) and the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama. After lunch the final three races of the weekend will take place. The NASCAR Pinty’s Series race will take the green flag at 1:00 pm followed by the Pirelli World Challenge GT/GTA/GT Cup race and the Canadian Touring Car Championship to wrap up the Castrol presents the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend.

The Castrol Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend Is Underway

The Castrol presents the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend, the first major event of the season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, got underway on Friday, May 20.

Pirelli World Challenge’s top GT class held their qualifying session with California native Patrick Long setting the pole in the Porsche 911 GT3 with a time of 1:15.481. In second was Andrew Palmer in a Bentley Continental GT3 and Ryan Eversley was third in an Acura TLX-GT. In the GT Cup class, Montreal’s Chris Green was fastest with a lap of 1:20.100.

The first race was of the weekend saw Montreal native Nick Wittmer take the win in Pirelli World Challenge TC class. Toby Grahovec was second and Dennis Hanratty was third. Elivan Goulart was the winner in TCA class and taking the top step of the podium in TCB was Henry Morse.

In Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama qualifying, Scott Hargrove set the pace in his OpenRoad Racing Porsche 991 with a time of 1:19.719. Shaun McKaigue was first in the Gold class.

Saturday’s action begins at 8:30 am with qualifying sessions in the morning plus races for Pirelli World Challenge (TC/TCA/TCB and GTS); NASCAR Pinty’s Series will also hold their first practice sessions. The GT class will get the afternoon started and will be followed by NASCAR qualifying and races for the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama and the Canadian Touring Car Championship.

The Clarington 200 will run on Sunday, May 22 at 1:30 pm.
